Lovely Thrifty Stuff

I love craigslist.
I pretty much search  it every day.
Even when I don't know what I am looking for.

But lately, I have been scouring it for the perfect kitchen table. Something round, white and strong enough to handle the day to day wear of our meals and activities. A few weeks ago, I painted 3 old chairs in coastal colors in preparation for the perfect table, preferably sold without chairs.

I also wanted it to be under $50.
And paid for with money from one of my own craigslist sales.
On Sunday, I posted a couple of items from the garage.
On Monday, I sold a twin bed I had sitting around being unused.
I got $40 for it.

On Tuesday, I contacted someone about this little beauty, which is just perfect for our breakfast nook.
I thought I was looking for something pedestal, but I reconsidered when I thought about all the leaning the kids would be doing while coloring, crafting, etc.

I paid $20 for it.

This table is replacing the kid sized table that we have all been hovering over if and when we eat as a family.

It certainly better accommodates all 4 of us, and brings a new formality to our meal times.

In my recent quest to get a tighter grip on our family's diet and eating habits, this table is a huge step forward in paying attention to mealtimes, and making meals more memorable.

And it is certainly a nice little spot for pretty flowers and centerpieces...

I might add I got a bonus shelf that I haven't figured out what to do with yet. Maybe you will see it next Thursday!

So, to sum up, I still have $20 from my sale and bonus piece of furniture from the purchase.
And the perfect little table for my nook.

What are the ways your family makes meal times more memorable?
Do you have any games you play at meal times to keep the kids from throwing food engaged?
